The furore over the Abbott Government’s proposed deregulation of Australia’s higher education sector misses one critical point: deregulation across education, at every level and in every market worldwide, is already well advanced.
The notion that our bricks and mortar universities have a monopoly on higher education, and that allowing them to differentiate on price represents the most radical shake-up of the sector in Australia for many decades, is simply out of date.
